Actor Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Delhi High Court in each of the seven cheque bounce cases stemming from a Rs 9 crore debt dispute. During the hearing today, the court found no grounds for relief for the actor.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also ordered Yadav to pay Rs 1.05 crore to the complainant in each case, totaling Rs 1,04,75,000, along with an additional Rs 25,000 to the State. Furthermore, Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, has been directed to pay Rs 5,00,51,380 to the complainant in all seven cases. The court clarified that the Rs 2.25 crore already paid by Rajpal Yadav would be deducted from the total amount owed.
In a previous hearing, Yadav appeared virtually and rejected a settlement proposal presented to the court. He expressed that he had already faced significant financial difficulties, stating, “I had already suffered heavy financial losses.” He added, “I had been forced to sell my property and had already made substantial payments.”
The High Court had proposed a structured payment plan, suggesting that Rs 3 crore be paid within a specified timeframe. However, the court emphasized that this proposal was merely a judicial suggestion and not a binding settlement. Despite these discussions, the parties were unable to reach an agreement.
